Why water-based lubricant is the best all-round solution
When it comes to having fun under the covers, the right type of lube can undeniably go a long way. However, in all too many cases, many of us can miss out on the best possible pleasure simply because we don’t have the right lube to hand.
That’s why we’re outlining some of the key things you should know about water-based lube to help make your decision a little easier.
Key features of water-based personal lube
First of all, we need to start by considering some of the key benefits and features of water-based lubes. Indeed, while not every lube is created equally, many consider water-based lube as their go-to option since it offers excellent features:
- Smooth and gentle on the skin
- Safe for use with condoms and sex toys
- Easy to wash out of materials (let’s face it – sex can get a little messy!)
- Non-sticky and easy to apply
- Great for people with sensitive skin or who are prone to vaginal irritation
Water-based lube is the ultimate all-rounder!
When it comes to choosing lube, it’s important to consider the different features. However, if you’re in a rush and aren’t entirely sure which lube might be best, or if you’re simply looking for a lube that can “do it all” for whatever scenario you might find yourself in, water-based lubricants are your best bet.
Their excellent properties make them easy to apply and easy to clean up once you’re done, reducing the risks of staining sheets or leaving your favourite sex toys looking worse-for-wear.
How to use water-based lube
Water-based lube is incredibly easy to use and offers the particular benefit that it’s non-sticky – making it incredibly easy to apply. What’s more, water-based lubes are also excellent options when it comes to sex toys and condoms, as there’s no risk of the lubes eating away at the silicone or latex.

When not to use water-based lube
Water-based lube offers excellent versatility. However, there’s one main drawback of water-based lube, and that is its staying power. Indeed, while alternatives such as hybrid and silicone lubes can last much longer, water-based lubes dry out more quickly; this means that, for longer sex sessions, you may need to reapply or invest in a different type.
Final thoughts
While it might not offer quite the exact same “staying power” as silicone lube, the versatility of water-based lube makes it nonetheless a truly excellent solution. Just don’t be afraid to reapply, if necessary, for a night of long-lasting bliss!
