How to use kegel balls to enhance your sexual well-being
For centuries, kegel balls have helped women to strengthen their pelvic floor muscles in order to enjoy many health benefits, some of which are very blissful! While they have been around for a long time, we’ve observed that kegel balls are currently enjoying a steep increase in popularity – for many excellent reasons.
What are kegel balls?
Kegel balls are known by many different names…jiggle balls, vagina balls, Venus balls, love balls, geisha balls, Ben Wa balls…we’ll refer to them here as kegel balls to keep things simple.
Kegel balls are basically a string of two balls that are inserted in the vagina. Kegels are used to exercise and strengthen your pelvic floor muscles, or alternatively, can be enjoyed as arousing, sexual well-being-enhancing pleasure toys.
How do kegel balls work?
Some kegel balls are solid, but typically, each kegel ball has a smaller, loose, weighted ball inside, which roams subtly and thereby generates a vibrating, tingly feel as you move. The wearer’s pelvic floor muscles keep the balls in place once inserted: a simple concept that gives you discreet joy along with a sensual pelvic floor workout.
What and where are the pelvic floor muscles?
For those interested in the human anatomy: the female pelvic floor muscles occupy the base of the pelvis and support various organs such as the vagina, uterus, bladder, as well as the rectum and anus. To contract the pelvic floor, imagine you’re peeing and you want to stop the flow of urine. There it is!
What are the benefits and pleasures of using kegel balls?
Performing exercises with kegels can strengthen your pelvic floor muscles, helping you:
- Tighten and super-sensitise the vagina, which can result in more powerful orgasms and a more satisfying sex and love life
- Improve bladder control
- Prepare for childbirth
- Support postpartum recovery
…and on the pleasure front:
- Kegels offer a wonderful way to heighten arousal
- Kegels give you pleasure during solo play and together with your partner
If you are pregnant or recovering after having your baby, having pain in your pelvic area, or if you have any concern about using kegels, we advise you to consult with your doctor about whether kegel balls are right for you.
How to insert kegel balls
Here a few tips on how to comfortably insert the kegels. As always with any pleasure toy, the more relaxed you are, the better the experience.
- Make sure your hands and the Ben Wa balls are clean (check out our sex toy cleaning guide for all the best tips)
- Apply some water-based lube on the kegels, your fingers, and around the opening of your vagina for easy insertion and maximum comfort
- Gently insert the first ball, and then the second
- If your kegels have a removal string, make sure it stays hanging outside of your body
- Push the kegels inside only as far as feels comfortable – everyone’s body is different, so go gently. How far you insert them will depend on how developed your muscles are, so start slowly and experiment with what feels good.
Different people experience the kegel balls inside them differently. Most users describe the sensation as sensual, subtle, tingling, and enjoyable. As you move, the sensations will increase.
When to use kegel balls
Exercising with kegel balls
Kegel balls are a wonderful way to help you train your pelvic floor muscles. With stronger inner muscles you may be able to enjoy more intense orgasms – surely the best reason we can think of for working out. Lighter, larger kegels are ideal for novices and postpartum women as they are the easiest to hold in place. As you become more experienced, we recommend gradually reducing the size and increasing the weight of the exercisers to challenge your pelvic muscles even further. Here a simple exercise tip:
- Once the kegel balls are inserted, tighten your pelvic floor muscles to move the balls around inside of you
- Contract the muscles around the balls for a few seconds, and then release
- Pause for a few seconds and repeat this a few times. Try a few sets per day
If you use the kegels and exercise with them regularly, you should be able to notice results after a few weeks. You can wear the kegels while taking your kids to school, walking the dog, whatever your daily routine dictates – just don’t keep them in for more than about four hours.
We offer a whole range of kegel balls with different weights, shapes and textures to choose from – check out our full range of sensual kegel exercisers and jiggle balls.

Kegel balls to prepare for sex with your partner
Start your foreplay early! If you insert the kegel balls ahead of play time, you will be more aroused and self-lubricated when your partner (or a toy) takes their place. Kegel balls increase blood flow directly to your intimate areas, making you more sensitive, and possibly more orgasmic.
Another top tip for anal connoisseurs: leave the kegel balls inside your vagina for G-spot stimulation during anal penetration and experience the most blissful delight.
“Me-time” with sensual kegel balls
Kegel balls are not classic sex toys but they can enhance sensation in your intimate areas in a variety of settings and activities. That extra sensation can also be enjoyed during solo play, so take some time to explore the pleasures they can provide.
Having the vibrating balls inside you is sure to get you aroused and get the juices flowing…this could be the right moment to grab a clit vibrator or a clit suction simulator for a spectacular finish.
If you want to combine your training with pleasure, check out the app-enabled Kegel Coach Smart Ball from Magic Motion (see picture).
